#70. Everywhere. All The Time.

But going nowhere.

We are over stimulated and overwhelmed. There it’s been said so we can now all rest easy.

The emails, pings and woops, the message here and the notification there. ALL taking our attention from the thing we should be working on.

Recently I took my email off my phone and limit other tools that can take my attention away from where I should be placing it.

Our devices are habitual terrorists that want to consume our minds and our lives, and whats worse we let them.

I decided to remove my email as I am trying to separate work and personal a little more as I don’t think I have any kind of balance. My coaching work is structured and process driven, but I need to make time for out of the blue calls.

My ecommerce business is 24/7, questions, emails and the enriching ping of another sale. But once again, an attention suck.

While I know these small changes won’t change my life, but is loosening the grasp of the attention suck and allowing me to be more present on the task in hand.

Here are some of the tricks I use to try and buy back capacity from the notification monster:

  1. No email on my phone

  2. No podcasts or music when walking the dogs

  3. Phone on silent most of the time

  4. No notifications to my watch

  5. No email notifications on my desktop

  6. No social notifications.

These are small rebellious acts against my attention being consumed 18 hours per day on many things that are neither important or urgent.

Look at what consumes you as ask what you can swap it out for. There is a high chance the world will keep turning with out you.

Until next week, take your time back.

Gx
