The first question I should answer is what qualifies me to be coaching other leaders? None, apart from the fact I have lived and breathed every experience that a leader will go through and have developed tools and a mindset to navigate them. So much of leadership is about the ability with your perception of self-value – ie am I strong enough to get the team through.
Growing up in a military environment for the first 18 years of my life I was exposed to leadership in the most extreme of circumstances in a world alien to many. As an only child, I was forced to learn hard lessons in resilience and self-management, tools that serve me to this day.
Since the earliest days of my professional and then business career I have been a student of leadership in both teams and myself. The extraordinary set of tools you need to be a great leader only come with experience, not just theory. I have found leadership lessons at board level in business and education, endurance racing and representing New Zealand at the World Triathlon Championships.
All of that experience has led me to coach leaders in career change, long term growth strategy and simply how to make it all come together and leave room for ‘real life’.
